Wealth Management for Yulee, Florida Retirees and Pre-Retirees

Is your 401(k) still invested the way it should be now that retirement is getting close? It's one of the most common questions we hear from Yulee families, and it deserves a clear, unhurried answer. SBC Wealth Management offers fee-based, fiduciary wealth management and investment advisory services from our main office right here in Yulee. Founder & Lead Advisor Stacy Summerlin brings more than 29 years of industry experience, is licensed in Florida and Georgia, and meets with clients in person or by phone. Call 855-809-2894 to start the conversation.

Who Do We Serve in Yulee?

Yulee is Nassau County's largest community and one of the fastest-changing places in Northeast Florida. The 2020 Census counted 14,195 residents in the Yulee census-designated place, and Census estimates put the 32097 ZIP code at roughly 26,700 people in 2024. Countywide, about one in four Nassau County residents is 65 or older, a higher share than Florida as a whole.

Our clients here are typically pre-retirees and retirees, roughly ages 50 to 75, who have built up their savings and would rather have professional, ongoing oversight than manage every decision on their own. Many have spent careers close to home, with the Nassau County School District, county government, or the Sheriff's Office, all based in or near Yulee, or at local employers such as Rayonier's large office campus and HCA Florida's Yulee campus. Others commute to Jacksonville or to Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, and some have lived along the SR 200/A1A corridor and in neighborhoods like Amelia Concourse for years.

Common situations that bring Yulee residents to us include:

  • Rolling over a 401(k), 403(b), or Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) account at retirement
  • Consolidating accounts scattered across past employers
  • Aligning investments with your comfort with risk as retirement nears
  • Weighing Florida Retirement System (FRS) or other pension choices as part of your overall investment picture
  • Relocating to Yulee and looking for a local advisor you can sit down with

Why Yulee Residents Work With SBC Wealth Management

Retirement decisions feel different when someone close to home is watching the details with you. At SBC Wealth Management, that starts with the fiduciary standard: when we act as your investment adviser, we're required to act in your best interest and not put our interests ahead of yours.

It continues with transparency. SBC Wealth Management is fee-based, with no commissions on advisory accounts, and every potential cost, including adviser, management, and custodial fees, is explained before you begin. You'll work directly with Stacy, one consistent advisor who knows your goals, and your accounts are monitored on an ongoing basis and reviewed periodically. Because our main office is just off SR 200/A1A near I-95, meeting face to face is a short drive for most Yulee residents.

Florida Retirement Tax Facts for Yulee Residents

Florida has no state personal income tax, so Social Security benefits, pension income, and withdrawals from IRAs and 401(k)s aren't taxed at the state level. Federal income tax still applies. Florida also has no state estate or inheritance tax.

Property taxes are where Yulee homeowners feel local rules the most:

  • Homestead exemption. A primary residence can qualify for up to $50,000 in exemptions. The second $25,000 is now adjusted for inflation, which puts the 2026 maximum at $51,411.
  • Save Our Homes. Once a home is homesteaded, its assessed value can rise by no more than 3% a year, or by the change in the Consumer Price Index if that's lower.
  • Millage. Yulee is in unincorporated Nassau County. For fiscal year 2025–26, the county adopted a countywide rate of 6.7457 mills plus a 2.2087-mill Municipal Service Taxing Unit rate for unincorporated areas. School district and other levies are added on top.
  • On the ballot. Florida voters will decide Amendment 3 on November 3, 2026. If approved, it would raise the homestead exemption for non-school property taxes beginning in 2027.

Why does this matter for your investments? Even without a state income tax, the timing of a rollover and the order in which you draw from different accounts still shape your federal tax picture. We keep that in view when we make investment recommendations and encourage you to work with your tax professional on the specifics. SBC Wealth Management doesn't provide tax or legal advice.

A Tip for FRS Members in Yulee

Many Yulee residents work for public employers, such as the school district, county government, and the Sheriff's Office, that participate in the Florida Retirement System. FRS members choose between the Pension Plan and the Investment Plan, and the two work very differently when you retire. Investment Plan balances can generally be left in place or rolled over to an IRA after you leave FRS-covered employment, so knowing which plan you're in shapes how your other savings fit together.

How Does SBC Wealth Management Help Yulee Investors?

Our wealth management services bring three connected pieces of work together, all built around you.

Wealth management. Personalized guidance built around your goals, your timeline, and how much risk you're comfortable taking. We start by understanding the whole picture: savings, income needs, upcoming milestones, and what you want retirement in Yulee to look like.

Ongoing investment oversight. Based on your objectives and risk tolerance, we select professionally managed model portfolios that are built and maintained by third-party investment managers. Your account is then monitored on an ongoing basis, and we recommend changes as your goals or market conditions change, so your strategy isn't set once and forgotten.

Retirement planning support. We help you see how your savings, investments, income needs, and long-term goals fit together, whether you're five years from retirement or already enjoying it.

Before you begin, you'll receive Gibbs Wealth Management's Form CRS and Form ADV, which explain our services, fees, and conflicts of interest in plain language. They're worth reading, and we're happy to walk through any part of them with you.

Common Retirement Investing Questions in Yulee, FL

  • Where is SBC Wealth Management's office in Yulee?

Our main office is at 57 Homegrown Way, Unit 301, in Yulee, just off the I-95 and SR 200/A1A interchange. It's open Monday through Thursday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM (closed 12:00 to 12:30 PM for lunch), and Friday, 8:30 AM to 1:30 PM. Call 855-809-2894 to schedule a time to meet.

  • Does Florida tax retirement income for Yulee residents?

No. Florida has no state personal income tax, so Social Security benefits, pensions, and IRA or 401(k) withdrawals aren't taxed by the state. Federal income tax still applies, and property taxes depend on where you live in Nassau County. Because tax rules can change and every situation is different, talk with your tax professional about your specific circumstances.

  • Can you help me roll over a 401(k) or 403(b) from a Nassau County employer?

Yes. Whether your plan is with a Yulee employer, a Jacksonville company, or a previous job, we can review your options with you, such as leaving the money in the plan or rolling it to an IRA. We explain the trade-offs of each choice, including costs, before you decide anything.

  • I'm retiring from the Nassau County School District. Can you help with my FRS choices?

Yes. We can help you see how your Florida Retirement System benefit fits with your other savings and investments. If you're in the FRS Investment Plan, we can review whether to leave the balance in place or roll it to an IRA after you leave. For Pension Plan details, such as your benefit estimate, FRS itself is the official source.

  • I work near Kings Bay. Can you help with my Thrift Savings Plan?

Yes. Many Yulee residents serve or work at Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, just across the Georgia line. When you separate or retire, we can walk through your Thrift Savings Plan choices, such as keeping the account, rolling it over, or combining it with other savings, and how each fits your goals and comfort with risk.

  • Do you work with clients outside Yulee?

Yes. We serve Northeast Florida and Coastal Georgia, including Fernandina Beach, Amelia Island, Jacksonville, Orange Park, St. Simons Island, and Brunswick. Besides our Yulee office, we meet by appointment at offices in Jacksonville, Orange Park, and St. Simons Island, and we're glad to meet by phone.

  • When should I start working with an advisor before retiring?

Many people begin five to ten years before their planned retirement date, while decisions about savings, risk, and income timing still have room to adjust. Retirees reach out too, often after a rollover, a move, or the loss of a spouse. A first conversation simply helps you see where you stand.

  • What does it mean that SBC Wealth Management is a fiduciary?

As your investment adviser, we're required to act in your best interest and not put our own interests ahead of yours. Recommendations are based on your goals, timeline, and comfort with risk, and conflicts of interest are disclosed to you in writing, including in Gibbs Wealth Management's Form CRS.

  • How is SBC Wealth Management paid?

SBC Wealth Management is fee-based. Advisory clients pay an asset-based advisory fee, and there are no commissions on advisory accounts. Every potential cost, including adviser, management, and custodial fees, is disclosed up front, so you know what you'll pay before you begin. You'll also receive Gibbs's Form CRS, which explains fees in plain language.

  • What happens at a complimentary retirement review?

It's a relaxed, no-pressure conversation with Stacy, in person at our Yulee office or by phone. We'll talk about your goals, your timeline, your comfort with risk, and the accounts you have today. You'll leave with a clearer picture and no obligation to move forward.

  • How is SBC Wealth Management related to Summerlin Benefits Consulting?

They're separate businesses. Advisory services are offered through SBC Wealth Management, which operates through Gibbs Wealth Management (“GWM”), an SEC‑registered investment adviser. Insurance products and services are offered through Summerlin Benefits Consulting Inc., which is independent of GWM. This page describes only SBC Wealth Management's advisory services.

What Does Working Together Look Like Over Time?

Retirement isn't a single decision; it's a series of them. Once your account is in place, it's monitored on an ongoing basis and reviewed periodically to confirm it still fits your goals and comfort with risk.

We also revisit your strategy when life changes, such as a new retirement date, a move into or out of Yulee, an inheritance, or a shift in how much risk feels right, and when markets move significantly. When an adjustment makes sense, we recommend it and explain why. Whether your family has called Yulee home for decades or arrived with the area's recent growth, that steady rhythm, with Stacy as one consistent point of contact, makes it easier to settle in without losing track of the details.
